The
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is a collaborative
course put on by the government of Canada, the province/ territorial
governments, national and provincial sport federations, and the
Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). Since the partnership was
first established in 1974, it has largely been responsible for creating
an internationally recognized coaching education program for high
quality coach development in more than 65 different sports in French
and English.
All different
sports are increasingly using the NCCP certification as a benchmark
qualification for coaches whether it is a paid or volunteer position.
The program is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of coaches
- from those who introduce young children to sport to those who
work with Canada's high performance athletes. Since more sports
looking into a more competency- based approach, sports are becoming
more confident in the relevancy of the sport-specific and generic
coaching knowledge that the NCCP delivers.
